Strikeforce Overeem vs Werdum: What?s next for Daniel Cormier if he defeats Jeff Monson?
Bleacher Report's Jason Schielke:
This Saturday night in Dallas, TX, up-and-coming heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier will be taking a step up the competition ladder when he faces off against the very experienced Jeff Monson.
So far in his short career, Cormier is a perfect 7-0, with three wins coming by knockout, and three coming by submission. In his last outing, he defeated Devin Cole at Strikeforce: Challengers 13 via unanimous decision.
Defeating such a talented and experienced fighter in Monson would be a huge feather in Cormier?s hat at this stage of his career, and would prepare him to step up and face some of the better heavyweights Strikeforce has to offer.
Should he be victorious Saturday evening, a bout against one of the tournament quarterfinal losers would seem like a logical move for his career. As it stands right now, Andrei Arlovski would be a good match for Cormier.
But if the powers that be decide not to move him up that quickly, a match against Lavar Johnson would be not only fan friendly, but would also be a good fight to see which fighter is going to be a contender, and which is going to be a pretender
