The BCS just took what should be a compelling bowl season and made it mundane. There are tantalizing options that the system, or the committee, robbed us of, and instead gave us a bucket of boring.
Now we have games lacking excitement and pop. Any way you cut it, two of the BCS matchups were completely botched. We'll take a look at those, but first let's check in with Boise State coach Chris Peterson on the subject.

He is clearly fed up with the system, and I'm pretty sure he is not in the minority. This tweet would certainly seem to suggest he is not.

The Title Game
It seems pretty simple really.

There is a finite opportunity to judge which teams are superior in college football. Why waste a spot in the title game on a rematch? This game will not answer anything. If LSU wins, we get an outcome we already had. If Alabama wins, then these two teams are 1-1. That's not a satisfying answer. That's a draw.

What is the point of that?
This matchup would be fine if these teams made it here in a playoff, but they haven't. They were selected. Alabama blew their chance to play in this game when they couldn't win their conference.
It is time to give another conference a chance. This way we have at least one more answer to the multitude of unanswered questions.
Sugar Bowl
The BCS had free reign to pick this matchup. They weren't bound by conference winners. And they decided to go with Virginia Tech and Michigan.

Virginia Tech ended the season No. 11 in the BCS rankings and Michigan No. 13. There are five BCS bowl games. That means 10 teams get the honor, and the BCS just picked the No. 11 and 13 teams.
What is the point of the rankings, if you are arbitrarily going to cast them aside when picking participants in the biggest games?
This wouldn't be so bad, if the matchup was going to be compelling to watch. However, this battle is not compelling.
Virginia Tech is all defense and no offenses, and they don't have one win against a ranked team. Meanwhile, Michigan is not much different. They have a QB that can't throw, and a solid defense. They have just one win against a ranked team.
Matt Faulconer sums up the excitement of this match in 140 characters or less.

Conclusion
The BCS is completely foundering. It was designed to help give us the best possible matchups and instead they are making blatantly foolish decisions.
The ultimate purpose of the BCS is to erase questions as to who the best team in the country is. They have done nothing to accomplish that task here.
The BCS failed, and now the fans will suffer.
