The Oklahoma Sooners have looked all out of sorts against the Oklahoma State Cowboys tonight. Landry Jones, in particular, has looked terrible in the first half, as the Sooners find themselves down 17-0.
If Bob Stoops and his coaching staff don't make some big changes at halftime, this team could find themselves on the wrong end of a Bedlam blowout.
1) Deflate the Crowd
The Cowboys home crowd has come out in droves for the biggest game of the season, even with the possibility of inclement weather. OU needs to come out strong in the second half and quiet the crowd quickly to give their offense an edge on the line of scrimmage.
Landry Jones has already had some trouble settling down, and they need him to be at his best for them to come out on top in this contest.
2) Slow OK State's Pass Rush
Oklahoma State isn't known for having the best pass rush in the nation, but you wouldn't know it from watching them dominate the line of scrimmage in the first half. Jones has regularly felt the heat all the night, which has led to quite a few bad throws.
Something needs to be changed at halftime to keep the Pokes from planting Jones in the turf.
3) Get Aggressive on Defense
OU's offense is having trouble holding on the ball, let alone scoring points. One big thing the Sooners defense could do is to make a game-changing play on defense. A big turnover or a drive-killing sack could turn the momentum over to the Sooners and get them back into this game.
4) Feed Roy Finch
Coming into this game, one of the main advantages the Sooners held was over Oklahoma State's run defense. Many fans (myself included) thought that Roy Finch could easily run all over the Pokes. However, that hasn't been the case.
Finch barely has any carries and Brandon Williams has been stealing carries from him all game. OU would be smart to get Finch the ball because he break this game open and keep OK State's potent passing attack off the field.
5) Note to Landry Jones: Play Better
Landry Jones has been wildly inconsistent since the Sooners lost Ryan Broyles, and tonight's game is no different. Stoops obviously wants to turn this game into a shootout because he hasn't been running the ball at all in the first half.
For that to work, Jones is going to have to step up his game. Yes, Dejuan Miller can't hang onto the ball and the line has been letting OK State rushers through all night. However, this is a quarterback's league, and for OU to pull this game out, he's going to have to find a way to play much better in the second half.
