Wisconsin's Bielema Already Working Rose Bowl ACC Officials: Are You Kidding Me?

According to Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal, Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bret Bielema is concerned that the Rose Bowl officiating crew from the ACC won't be able to keep up with the Ducks fast pace. Huh?

At his Monday press conference, Bielema went on and on about the possibilities of false starts, potential holding that "will never be seen," and his concern that his defense be given time to substitute. His big issue appears to be that the umpire, in his rush to sprint away from the ball when the signal to play is given, will have his back turned and not be looking "where he's supposed to be looking".

If I'm a member of that ACC crew, I'm a little ticked off right now. Is Bielema implying that the crew is out of shape? Slow as slugs? Don't understand the game?

Or is Bielema simply firing the first cannon in the "We're watching you, you'd better not screw up" coach vs. referee sweepstakes? Is he an applicant to Mike Stoops and Rick Heuheisel's "If I Complain About Everything Something Might Stick Club?"

According to Mulhern's coverage, Bielema has brought his concerns up with the Big Ten Conference's supervisor of officials. And, my personal favorite in this story, he has "proactively sent film clips" to the officials demanding to know how things will be interpreted.

Whatever happened to just playing the damn game?
