Would Greg Oden and Shane Battier Solidify the Miami Heat?

Who do the Heat really need to go after in order to complete their team and strengthen their chances of winning not only the 2011-12 championship, but being able to effectively chase rings for years to come?

Clearly, they need to make some changes, or do they? I read an article talking about how the fact that the Heat lost in the finals gives off the impression that they are not a complete team.

However, let's think about this. They were missing both Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller for large portions of the year, and these are two very key role players.

Haslem is a co-captain, hustle player and knock-down mid-range shooter who was surely missed, while Miller can surely stretch the floor.

The Heat tried to bring in Mike Bibby, when in reality Mario Chalmers is the better and more consistent player and shooter.

The other veterans the Heat used to fill out the roster were really a non-factor and will continue to be if they are brought back.

However, the Heat should really try and keep James Jones, the three-point champion and very nice compliment to Miami Thrice when he's on the court.

The most recent rumors say that both Greg Oden and Shane Battier are interested in signing with the Heat, but how much would this really help the Heat?

Everyone seems to believe that the Heat need a point guard and a center, considering the Heat have All-Stars at the other three positions on the court.

But the way I see it, LeBron James or Dwyane Wade would not be a bad look at the point guard position. Yet Erik Spoelstra seems to be opposed to this and likes to have a true point guard on the floor.

What people forget is how far Mario Chalmers has come during his short career in Miami. I can definitely see him stepping into that starting role and being exactly what the Heat need.

It seems as though Pat Riley has given the reigns of the team to Chalmers, because so far the Heat have shown no interest in any point guards.

However, It wouldn't be bad for Riley to go after a veteran point guard to mentor young Chalmers and rookie Norris Cole.

Shane Battier would be another defender that Spoelstra would have the luxury of throwing at great scorers like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant or even Carmelo Anthony and Paul Pierce in the playoffs.

He would also bring great veteran experience, but I believe the Heat should be going after a quicker and more agile and athletic player like Tony Allen.

That's beside the point.

If Greg Oden were to be healthy, he would prove to be exactly what the Heat are looking for, but that's a big if.

He has not played one healthy season since he entered the NBA.

If he could get back to being the player he was in Ohio State, finishing around the bucket on one end and protecting the basket on the other, the Heat would be an even more dangerous and intimidating team.

If I were Pat Riley I would definitely take the chance on Oden. He could be that missing piece.

The Heat will surely do something to bolster their squad. You know Riley is not done building his dynasty and he see's what other teams are doing around the league to compete with them.
