Former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler looked awfully good in his return to the ring on Saturday. He easily stopped Mehdi Bouadla in the 6th round of their bout to earn a TKO victory in his hometown of Copenhagen.
Considering Kessler hasn't stepped into the ring since April of 2010, his performance was better than most could have anticipated. At no point during the bout did Bouadla show any indication that even belonged in the same ring as the Viking Warrior.
The only question now is who will Kessler fight next? He will surely have a lot of options for future fights after such an impressive performance on Saturday. I would assume his ideal fight would be a rematch against Andre Ward, but I highly doubt that fight interests Ward at all at this point in their careers.
Other potential opponents for Kessler could be a bout with Kelly Pavlik or potentially even Lucian Bute. He could also even consider moving down in weight or fighting Sergio Martinez at a catch-weight.
Whatever he decides, we just hope he doesn't wait another year to fight again.
