Wondering which running backs have the best matchups heading into Week 14? We've got you covered in our Week 14 Rankings.
Peyton Hillis (Cleveland Browns) @ Buffalo
Hillis received 25 touches between the run and pass game Sunday and continues to be the main cog in the Browns offense. He was slowed a bit by the Miami Dolphins, gaining just 57 yards on the ground and 22 yards through the air while being held out of the end zone for just the second time this season.
Those in PPR leagues certainly enjoyed his seven catches, and no other Browns back received any carries. Expect Hillis to start another touchdown streak in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills, a sweet matchup for Hillis owners who begin the playoffs this week.
The Bills are worst in the league by a wide margin in rushing YPG against with 170.9 and allow an average of 21.8 fantasy points per game to opposing backs.
Hillis is the top running back option in Week 14.
Knowshon Moreno (Denver Broncos) @ Arizona
Moreno was the only Bronco to receive a carry and ran well with 161 yards on 23 carries Sunday.
The Broncos split the run and pass pretty evenly and Moreno continues to be a huge part of their offense. While he didn’t score a touchdown, it was another nice day for Moreno, who is putting up numbers worthy of an RB2 and borderline RB1 slot.
He only had one catch for 14 yards, much less than his usual numbers through the air, but the big yardage on the ground more than made up for that.
He’s been over 15 fantasy points the past four weeks and should have no problem continuing that streak against an Arizona Cardinals team that’s allowing 23.6 fantasy points to opposing backs…worst in the league. Expect a big day from Moreno.
Rashard Mendenhall (Pittsburgh Steelers) vs. Cincinnati
Mendy was slowed by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13 and managed just 45 yards on 19 carries. He added 18 yards on three catches, but it was an overall disappointing day for a back that many expect RB1 production from.
Expect him to bounce back in Week 14 against a Cincinnati Bengals team that allows close to 18 fantasy points to opposing backs.
Isaac Redman received just four carries and was the only other back to touch the ball, so Mendy still has plenty of job security and is a top tier RB2 right now.
James Starks (Green Bay Packers) @ Detroit
Starks was given the bulk of the workload for the Packers in his first game on the active roster Sunday with 18 carries for 73 yards.
It looked as though Starks may have won the starting job, but head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday he’ll use a three-man rotation in the backfield, erasing most of the value Starks may have had.
If you had to start one Packer in Week 14, we like Starks based on his workload Sunday. That, however, could change dramatically, and you have to make sure to monitor the Packers press conferences during the week to see what they will do with Starks.
That said, the matchup is right and if you are looking for a potential sleeper at the position gambling on him could pay off.
