Nick Fairley joins Chris Long to round out Rams' D-line
It seems almost unbelievably that Nick Fairley could fall this far in the draft. He had such an incredible season at Auburn in 2010, leading his defense to a National Championship and finishing out the season with his stock sky high.
Unfortunately, people began to question his play as being inconsistent. Marcel Dareus seems to be a more natural fit in both schemes and has been more consistent for longer. This may have a negative impact on Fairley?s draft stock, but like Bowers, Fairley remains one of the premiere defensive talents in the 2011 draft.
The Rams overachieved defensively last season, which may cause a bit of a regression in 2011. O.J. Atogwe was released, which may have an adverse effect on their secondary. Regardless, the Rams seem to have a new mindset on both sides of the ball now that Sam Bradford is at the helm.
They need a wide receiver, but selecting a wide receiver with the 14h pick not named A.J. Green or Julio Jones is a huge reach. There are plenty of receivers later on who could come in and find a home in the St. Louis offense after the first round. Fairley is miles ahead of every other prospect remaining on the board and is an easy call here.
